Woodlark Hotel*
Hospitality Design
*Designed under Smith Hanes Studio
While at Smith Hanes Studio, Patrick Di Rito led the design team for the Woodlark Hotel lobby, a stunning fusion of the historic Woodlark Building and the Cornelius Hotel in downtown Portland. The adaptive reuse project masterfully blends subtle, soft details with the grandeur of the original structures, creating a welcoming and elegant environment. Natural light floods the lobby through floor-to-ceiling windows, while skylights illuminate black and white hexagon tiles and warm gray wood flooring. Custom wallpaper, inspired by native Pacific Northwest flora, and handblown glass fixtures further enhance the lively, nature-inspired interiors.
The Woodlark Hotel lobby serves as a sophisticated gateway to the entire property, which includes the masculine-infused Bullard Tavern and the 40-seat living room and bar, Abigail Hall. Embracing the motto of the Cornelius Hotel as the 'House of Welcome,' the Woodlark invites both visitors and locals to connect with the city’s offerings. The design balances urban and natural aesthetics, setting a new standard for contemporary elegance and hospitality in the Pacific Northwest.
