Optimist Oyster Bar

Commercial Restaurant Design

The Optimist Oyster Bar in West Midtown Atlanta, reimagined by designers Patrick Di Rito and Janine MacKenzie for Ford Fry of Rocket Farm Restaurant Group, is a sophisticated take on a coastal fish camp. With its darker, moodier ambiance, the space now evokes the mystery and allure of the ocean. Deep ocean-blue walls, bespoke banquettes and light fixtures, and curated vintage art create a rich, layered atmosphere. Thoughtful details like the sailboat-inspired bar front, custom banquettes, and hand-selected light fixtures bring craftsmanship and elegance to every corner. This redesign seamlessly blends refinement with rustic coastal charm, delivering an elevated dining experience that feels both timeless and modern.

Oyster Bar

The Optimist Oyster Bar has been meticulously crafted to evoke the timeless craftsmanship of sailboats. The new bar front, with its intricate wood and black band pattern, complements the bar stools imported from the UK and upholstered in custom fabrics. The Oyster Bar’s oven is now clad in tiles that shimmer subtly in the moody light, while the adjacent server reset room is wrapped in a coordinating tile pattern. Above it all, newly installed light fixture add a warm glow over the oyster pass.

Dining Room

The Optimist Oyster Bar’s dining room has been transformed into a sophisticated, moody retreat, drawing inspiration from the depths of the ocean. Behind the host stand, a restored vintage furniture piece provides a nod to the past, while taxidermied accents—a duck and a fish—add a playful, unexpected charm to this dark and sophisticated space. Walls painted in a deep, rich ocean blue set a dramatic tone, while custom banquettes with plush upholstery referencing vintage boat seats provide an intimate and comfortable dining experience. Heavy drapery in navy and deep gray tones softens the space, adding layers of texture and warmth. A curated art collection, featuring vintage pieces alongside unique finds, lines the walls, bringing character and a touch of whimsy.

Private Dining Room

The private dining room offers a more intimate setting for guests. Wood wainscoting and a whimsical fish wallpaper lend depth and a classic elegance. The elements combine to create an atmosphere that is as inviting as it is distinctive, ideal for special occasions or quiet gatherings. The thoughtful layering of materials and textures ensures this room feels both luxurious and connected to the larger restaurant.
